PTDF BEGINS GRADUAL PHASING OUT OF MASTERS DEGREE COMPONENT OF ITS OVERSEAS SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME.

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), has begun the gradual phasing out of the Masters Degree component of the Overseas Scholarship Scheme. This follows the domestication of the training programme in reputable institutions in Nigeria beginning from the next academic year starting September 2010. The Fund has since the inception of the flagship capacity building programme trained one thousand, eight hundred scholars at the Masters level and two hundred and fifty at the Doctoral level in top ranked universities specialising in oil and gas courses in the United Kingdom.

 

The Executive Secretary of the Fund, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma who gave a time frame of three years for the complete withdrawal of overseas training for Masters Degree Programmes, said this became imperative following the development by the Fund of sufficient and competent manpower to operate and manage the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.

FINAL OF PTDF “CATCH THEM YOUNG” AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL

The final of the PTDF ' Catch Them Young' competition comes up as follows:

 

Date:            19th – 21st May, 2010.

Venue:         Chida International Hotel,                                                 

                      Plot 224, Solomon Lar Way,                    

                      Utako District, Abuja.

Debate topics for National Competition:
 
          1) Corruption at the local Niger Delta level is really to blame for the woes of the region.
          2) Privatization of the downstream sector is the answer associated with the petroleum industry in Nigeria.   
          3) The oil-producing States of Nigeria have done more for their own    people than any other state government has done for its own people.

 

The detail of the prizes is indicated below:

 

The first positions in all the categories with their teachers will visit oil and gas installations (Local and International).

 

 i) Essay-Writing

 

1st Position  --                                                     N100,000.00 and a Laptop

2nd Position –                                                     N75,000.00 and a Laptop

3rd Position –                                                      N50,000.00 and a Laptop

4th – 6th Position -                                             N30,000.00
